Fall Maintenance For Your Home

As the seasons begin to change, and the colder weather approaches, make sure your home is ready.

As the seasons begin to change, and the colder weather approaches, make sure your home is ready. By tackling a few home maintenance tasks now, it can help ward off potential issues later in the season.

Many of these tasks are well within a homeowner’s ability, but if you'd rather hire a professional to handle them, it can be well worth the expense. You'll save money in the long run by preventing costly (and potentially dangerous) damage to your home. (Source: bhg.com)

Follow the checklist below for some foolproof ways to protect your home:
Clean your gutters – It is vital to keep your roof’s drainage system running smoothly. Clogged gutters can lead to damaged exterior surfaces and water in your basement. Clean your gutters and cover them with mesh gutter guards, your future self will thank you.

Inspect your roof – The last thing you want as the cold rainy and eventually snowy weather hits is a leaky roof. Check for bent, cracked or missing shingles and replace them or have them replaced by a professional.

Clean your yard – Summer furniture likely won’t be getting much use in the next couple of months, to keep it in great shape for next year, move or cover it if you know if won’t react well to the snow.

Disconnect your outdoor hose – Reminder, outdoor faucets have no protection from our harsh winters. Turn off the water and store all garden hoses inside.

Inspect your homes exterior for cracks - Walk around and have a look for cracks or gaps. Take a good look at doors, windows, and entry points of wires or cables. Sealing these off will save you headaches later. (Source: TheWeatherNetwork.com)
